The Issue:
The Print Authority has worked with a large restaurant chain since 1996, with a particular focus on training, human resources and accounting materials. In 2007, this client closed its commissary which distributed printing and other materials to the restaurants. At that time, the client employed a competitor for production and distribution of printed materials.
After 20 months, the company asked The Print Authority to resume printing and shipping menu “rollouts” which involve the production and shipment of a large quantity of cards, posters, manuals and other items to all locations on a rush basis. The reason for this change was that the competitor took too long to produce and ship printed materials.
About a year later, the company recontacted The Print Authority to handle all nationwide printing fulfillment for the training, human resources and accounting departments. These materials included guest checks, training materials, human resources posters, accounting envelopes and some signage. The restaurant company had the following issues with the competition:
1. The competitor’s website was not intuitive and was slow.
2. The competitor produced large runs of the printed materials to lower the unit cost, but rather than saving money, our client paid tens of thousands of dollars in destruction charges whenever changes occurred.
3. Backorders of printed materials were a chronic problem. Most orders were split into several shipments, radically increasing shipping and fulfillment charges.
What we did:
The Print Authority developed a new printing fulfillment system to address these challenges, improve the process and lower costs. In 2011, The Print Authority was awarded the contract. We created an intuitive website and began producing printing on demand. Virtually 100% of the client’s orders ship out within 2 working days, and backorders are almost non-existent.
The result:
This new process has dramatically reduced waste, lowering the cost of obsolete materials by at least $24,000 per year. Since 2011, we have produced and shipped thousands of orders.
