There are many types of printing styles and services, but it can be hard to identify what each of them are. With over 27 years of experience, we’ve worked with every facet of the printing industry. Because of our expertise, we thought we’d compile a list of the different types of printing.
Different Types of Printing
Digital Printing
This is when you transfer a digital based image to print format. When done for larger format documents, an inkjet or high volume laser printer is likely to be used. Digital printing is great for time sensitive and recurring printing.
Offset Printing
This type of printing uses plates, usually made of aluminum, that transfer the image you want printed to a rubber sheet or “blanket” which is then rolled on the paper. Offset is the term used because the image is not directly transferred to the paper from the start. Custom inks can be used in this process along with the highest quality of printing.
Flexography
This process is sometimes referred to as a modern version of the letterpress. Flexography transfers ink from flexible plates to the paper or item that is getting printed. Flexography can typically be used to print on multiple types of surfaces.
Screen Printing
This method of printing is when a stencil (or screen) is created and then used to apply layers of ink onto the printed object. Screen printing is useful when you need high vibrancy, like when you need to print a light object on a dark background.
